Is CranioSacral Therapy energy work or body work?

One of the most frequently asked questions I hear from people who have received craniosacral therapy and from those inquiring about it is how to categorize this method of facilitated healing. If you have asked me this question, you know that my answer is:

YES.

Everything is energy: varying degrees of subtlety and density, variations of frequency—all energy. Your thoughts are a subtle vibration within the field of your mind compared to the force of your arm reaching for your cup of coffee.

CranioSacral Therapy is a process and method of working with both the dense structures of your entire nervous system (not just the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches) and the more subtle energy contained within and surrounding those structures. I like to think of it as the consciousness of the body accessed through Prana. Prana is the force that animates us. In the Yogic model of our complete being, the pranic layer connects the body layer to the thinking mind, the knowing mind, and the soul. The pranic layer is the path to spiritual embodiment and the integrated wholeness of body, mind, and spirit.

Practically speaking, CranioSacral Therapy is categorized as bodywork because a license to touch (massage) is required to practice this skilled healing art.

I chose to specialize in CranioSacral Therapy because it provides the language and tools to use my natural abilities to hold space and offer resource energy. Your inner wisdom or highest self is the guide for CranioSacral Therapy sessions. Sometimes what’s needed is a resource for the subtle layers of cellular consciousness; other times, it’s the needs of the denser energy of the bones and fascia. I continue to study this work and learn from each of you who trust me to be a part of your healing journey. Thank you for trusting me and for practicing the courage to wade through the river of change, seeking the realization of your complete Self.
